Abstract: Many dynamical systems are considered chaotic because they have very complicated topological and geometric features and exhibit sensitive dependence on initial conditions which makes it impossible to predict the evolution of an initial condition unless it is known with complete accuracy. Remarkably however, many initial conditions have very regular ´statistical¡ behaviour which can be described using the formalism of probability theory. In this talk i will give an overview of some classical and more recent results concerning the statistical description of deterministic dynamics and discuss some of the open problems and conjectures in the field.
