Abstract: The discovery of gravitational waves is the result of one of the most challenging scientific endeavours. It will undoubtedly have deep implications on our understanding of the universe. Gravitational wave detection from far edges of the universe appeared an impossible task due to the weakness of the gravitational coupling constant. Only deep understanding of quantum measurement and incredible technical process made the final detection possible. We will discuss physical principles on which gravity wave detectors are built, will comment on theoretical implications of the final discovery, and will finally touch on the impact that this discovery may have on the physics of black holes.
