Abstract: Our basic aim in this lecture will be an explanation of how did thinking about first principles, elements, Being and realms of beings start (at least in Western tradition). We will introduce an Aristotelian point about science(s): there are many different sciences, characterized by specific (types of) objects and their laws: first philosophy (metaphysics or ontology) is the study of being qua being is one of them. Ontology begins with two questions (what are categories of the world and what are laws that govern these categories) and categorization is based on the PC - principle of classification: - things (neutral attitude) are distinguished between each other by means of the properties which they have. In the final part The Canberra Project - as resurrection of idea of Aufbau and new physicalism - will be analyzed as a (one) possible way how ontology is done today. References: 1. G. S.
