On the Stability of the State of Equilibrium
of Hamiltonian Systems with One or Two Degrees of Freedom

Abstract: We consider small perturbations of an integrable Hamiltonian that differs from the quadratic one and represent an oscillator whose restoring force is cubic or even of more general type. Using the methods of KAM-theory we prove the existence of invariant two-dimensional tori in any neighborhood of the origin. This implies the stability of the state of equilibrium at the origin in the sense of Lyapunov.
