NASA Spinoffs - Space Exploration's Payback

Abstract: The source of innovation is unpredictable. One never knows where important discoveries of potentially great practical consequence will come from. The importance of research and development in support of NASA’s space exploration and consequent technology transfer into U.S. civilian sector will be discussed. Public investment in space exploration led to thousands spinoffs that have already improved and transformed our daily lives. Estimates are that there is at least a seven-fold return to the society for every dollar spent on space exploration. Rising technological tide raises all boats.
