Abstract: My two lectures will deal with new insights in the field of (1) active galactic nuclei (AGN), including Sgr A*, (2) gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) and their afterglows, (3) the origin of the cosmic rays (CRs), and (4) a certain class of high-field, slowly rotating neutron stars collectively called `magnetars´. In spite of the increasing wealth of observational data, details confirm that they are all powered by well-understood magnetized rotators inside of standard-type accretion disks.
