Abstract:
Neutron stars are well studied Galactic objects,
observed in the form of the `Pulsars? (),
and of the Binary X-ray Sources (
). They are
probably all born in supernova explosions, and most of them are
short-lived compared with the age of the Galaxy. Problematic are
(i) the formation of their relativistic winds,
(ii) the formation of their broadband pulses (from radio to
hard gamma-rays), (iii) their beaming patterns,
(iv) the irregularities of their pulses,
(v) the two-humpedness of their (birth) period distribution, (vi) their
occasional formation of jets, and (vii) their overabundance
in the globular clusters.
