Convex Interaction of Particles

Abstract: The talk addresses the interaction of finitely many particles in discrete time. The future state of each particle is given as a convex combination of the present states of the particles where the coefficients are admitted to depend on time. Sufficient conditions will be given which imply asymptotically a collision of all particles. Such a collision happens in particular if the strength of interaction decays not too fast and the structure of interaction becomes not too loose. Particles in this general mathematical model can mean many things, from moving bodies in real space over inhomogeneous material subject to heat conduction to different people discussing their opinions. Collision then means that bodies collide in space or the materials approach the same temperature or the discussion of people tends to a consensus.
